About us:

The Ministry of Social Development was established to facilitate and contribute the great care of His Majesty in developing and caring for Omani citizen. The ministry was established in order to socially improve the situations of the Omani citizen which was noted in His Majesty's speech in the second national day: (In order to achieve our goals in rebuilding the Omani citizen, to provide him/her with needs of life and to socially improve the situations of the Omani citizen. Therefore, the Ministry of Social Affairs was established to provide social care for the disabled and the elderly through providing financial and in-kind assistance and through training those who can be rehabilitated to obtain a suitable source of livelihood, and to provide aids for those who are affected by calamities. Moreover, it spread social awareness and encourage charitable associations and clubs, and cooperative societies. Besides, the ministry helps people with low-income by providing them with houses).

Immediately after the renaissance of Oman, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour was established on 20/5/1972. On 2/1/1990 the name was changed to the Ministry of Social Affairs by Royal Decree No. 5/90. On 10th December, 1991the name was changed to the Ministry of Social Affairs, Labour and Vocational Training by Royal Decree No. 115/91 and was changed to the Ministry of Social Development on 6/11/2001 by Royal Decree No. 108/2001. Since the start of the Ministry of Social Affairs, it has been working hard. Hence, the ministry participated in the second conference of the ministers of Arab youth and in the first Youth Festival in Algeria in 1972. The main concern of the Ministry of Social Affairs was taking responsibility of work and workers till it was changed to the Ministry of Social Development which is considered to be one of the public institutions which strive to provide the best services for citizens as individuals and families in general and as woman and child specifically and to overcome all circumstances faced by them as stated in the Statute Law of the State in Article No. (12) regarding social principles which explains that the state is committed to provide assistance for the citizen and his/her family in emergency, disease, disability, and old age according to social security system and to work on the solidarity of the community to bear the burdens resulting from public disasters and calamities.
